All of the area is plains, or 'pampas' as it's known in South America.   Based on what we'd learned back in Puerto Madryn, the fact that these penguins are so far back from the sea indicates they are perhaps breeding for the first time.   We had learned that the older, more experienced breeding pairs choose the closer burrows.

This photo could be titled "Penguins Outstanding in their Field"!   Groan!
