At the east end of the Stanley Harbor is the 'Lady Elizabeth' shipwreck.   Locally known as 'Lady Liz', the ship set sail from Sunderland (UK) in 1879.   Like the Jhelum (shipwreck in an earlier photo), it was damaged in the heavy waters rounding Cape Horn.   Hmmm! Knowing we too will be in the Drake Passage (where Cape Horn is) in a few days, this is a bit concerning!

The ship came into Stanley for repairs but the costs were too high. It was moored in somewhat deeper waters in the harbor until strong winds in 1936 forced the 'Lady Liz' to where it rests today.
