UpDecember 2007 South America: Puerto Madryn, Argentina PrevNextSlideshow

The long desolate road, Highway 3, is part of the Pan-American Highway.   The highway goes down the west coast of South America until it gets to Valparaiso (Chile) and then cuts across to the east to Buenos Aires.   It originally ended there but has now been extended down the eastern coast of South America to Ushuaia.

Our guide pointed out that the road is not well traveled and there are few places along the way to stop for food or fuel so anyone making the trek needs to be well prepared. On our drive, we saw no more than 5 or 6 vehicles coming the other way.
