December 2007 South America: Punta del Este, Uruguay

Lots of young folks were braving the somewhat rocky coast line to practice their surfing skills. In this picture, the weather looks overcast and cold, however, the temperatures were in the 80°'s. The "overcast" was more of a haze. December in Southern South America is the equivalent of July in the northern hemisphere. For comparison sake, the latitude of Punta del Este is roughly 35° south; Charlotte, NC is roughly 35° north.
