UpDecember 2007 - Buenos Aires, Argentina PrevNextSlideshow

A little further into the "mall" we see a Christmas tree that must be 40 or more feet high. We never got close enough to determine if it was real or "brought out for the season"! Note the ceiling. The frescos are reminiscent of Italian Renaissance work.

A bit of history: Originally built in 1889 as the Argentine Bon Marché, it was modelled after Le Bon Marché in Paris. In 1896, part of the building was converted into an art museum and in early 1900's, the British Buenos Aires to Valparaiso Railway Company acquired part of the building for its offices and it then became known as the Edificio Pacifico (Pacifico Office Building).

In the mid 1940's, the offices of the railway company were separated from the rest of the building. In the late 1980's early 1990's, and the remainder that had been abandoned was remodeled and opened as the Galería Pacifico.
