| After a flight from Tampa, FL to Houston, TX and then to Buenos Aires International Airport, a journey of some 30 hours, we arrived safely in Buenos Aires on Monday, December 17th. Our first night in town, we attended the mandatory Tango Show. Our transfers from the airport to the hotel, the tango show and a full day tour were arranged by Carlos Vitró of Private Tours. We highly recommend his services. A driver picked us up at our hotel and took us to the Gala Tango in San Telmo. The neighborhood was not one you would want to on the streets in, however, once inside, it was a magical world. More descriptions are with the pictures. The second day, we were off on a 7½ tour of Buenos Aires North and South. This included the driving through the various barrios (neighborhoods), a ride on the historic Tren de la Costa, a catamaran ride through the Tigre delta, a visit to the Recoleta Cemetary and Evita's (Eva Peron) Mausoleum, and lunch in La Boca on the Caminito. Day 3 we were on our own. We walked about 3 blocks from our hotel the Buenos Aires' most popular pedestrian shopping street, Calle Florida. We spent most of the time in Galerías Pacifico, an intriguing multi-level shopping building. From Calle Florida, we walked to and through the Plaza San Martin back to the hotel. The next day, we would be off to Iguazu Falls. |
