| Continuing our walk along the river we approach the Karl Theodor bridge. It is also known as the "Old Bridge". The first mention of a bridge at this site was in the late 1200's. It and many after it were made of wood and didn't last through the floods and ice. The first stone bridge was built in the 1780's. In March of 1945 it, like all the other bridges on the Neckar, was destroyed by German soldiers. Enthusiastic resident supporters provided the donations needed to have it rebuilt between 1946 and 1947. |
